Hello, I'm seeking advice for specific places/areas/subdivisions to live near/around the airport. My husband has been offered a job there and we are trying to research the area...I've read a lot about Killearn and the northeastern area of Tallahasse but from what I've figured it sounds like it's about 30-40min away or so from the airport and we're not sure if it's worth the commute and what the traffic is like there.

We're moving from suburb in Orlando and have young children. Living in a safe area with well-rated schools is important (specifically elementary since we anticipate moving again after about 5 years). I'm a little nervous about moving there because it seems like I've come across a lot of negative information. We're looking to rent and would like to be relatively close to basic stores (target, publix, etc.) and amenities like parks/libraries/family type activities and away from the college scene.

Thank you in advance for your help! I always find this site so helpful.

P.s. Any opinions on hospitals that do child delivery?

Anywhere near the airport is a pretty crappy neighborhood. You might wanna compromise and have a little drive... .. Try Southwood, or the apartments that surround it. it would be about a 15-20 minute drive...

I don't know your price range, but I would suggest you look at Southwood. It's very family friendly, good elementary school, easy commute to the airport. It is far (well, as far as you can get in Tallahassee) from the college crowd. There's a nice Publix right there. The only thing that isn't on your wish list is a nearby library, but there's a beautiful new library on Pedrick road just a few miles drive away. Coming from Orlando, you'll think Tallahassee driving is easy-peasy.

In terms of being close to the airport I always have liked Longleaf Road and Echo Point around the south shore of Lake Bradford but do not think the real estate turns over very much. Southwood is very nice, not sure how attendance at Conley Elementary is now structured at one time it was lottery based. Schools generally have much better facilities and test scores in the northeast, school ratings are a bit treacherous but take a look at this site:
