Advertisements

I live in Pinellas county and would liek to subscribe to a Sunday paper, mainly for the weekly ads. Which one is best for ads(I read all my real news online, couldn't care less about content)?

Tampa Tribune or St. Pete Times

Also, is one going to give me more community ads than the other?

I agree with the St. Pete times, although I've had problems not getting Lowe's ads for long stretches and then walk into the store to find them. Not sure what the issue was but I did call and ask about it. Probably was my carrier. When I was "shopping" for a paper I read at one time that the circulation was much greater for the SPT than TT, which also led me to believe I'd get more out of it.

Having worked editorial for newspapers for 2 years and in publishing for 20, if the OP's request doesn't sum up the state of that industry today, well, I got out just in time.

I would agree. I don't get my news from Newspapers for a couple of reasons. Its much more convenient to read online. It's free to read online and I don;t have to deal with newspapers piling up at my home before takign them to be recycled. I'm pretty confident that when my kids become 30 something adults, they will not be getting their new from papers.... if they still exist.

Now, magazines.... magazines are a whole different ball of wax to me. I love magazines. I know, strange....perhaps.

It was interesting being there for the transition. I remember editorial meetings where we projected how the paper would evolve as it went digital. We had these clunker of computers we'd type on. So many of the issues still unresolved today are the very ones we discussed 20plus years ago.

After newspapers I went to work for a huge publishing company. I was shown my office & desk and first thing I asked was where's my computer (even though they were still pretty new back then). My news manager opened my desk drawers and revealed 100s of files. "There" he said, "that's your computer."

In my personal life, I even had a word processor between having an electric typewriter and before personal computers so it was stunning to see this major corporation so far behind the curve. We all shared a teletype to get our info to the regional office. I had to learn Morse code.

"The times they are a changing."

I liked the Tampa Tribune but I lived in Tampa. I think the St Pete paper is just as good but I liked getting the news of the area where I lived like S. Tampa or NW Tampa
