IMO, Castaway Restaurant has the best brunch in Tampa. If you go on a holiday such as Mother's Day, make a reservation and go early if possible. Here's their dot com --> The Castaway Restaurant in Tampa, FL (http://www.castawayrestaurant.com/tampa/index.htm - broken link).

The website doesn't mention the brunch menu, but I've been a lot. They have separate stations with breads & pastries, fresh fruit & juices, yogurt & cereals, a cold seafood bar (crab claws, shrimp, oysters...this varies based on availability), salad bar, hot breakfast items (gravy & bisquits, potatoes, meats, scrambled eggs, pancakes and/or french toast & hot syrup), two to three hot veggies, usually steamship round or prime rib, ham, a hot entree such as chicken divan, a hot seafood entree, dessert station, and separate chef stations with all the fixins' for crepes, omelets, waffles, bananas foster, and sometimes beignets. I guarantee you will not leave hungry.

The Castaway is not there anymore. It has been replaced by the Return if Whiskey Joe's a Tampa Icon restaurant and bar. They have a Brunch and it's more casual and less expensive than what the Castaway had.www.whiskeyjoestampa.com They are really known for their Happy Hours and their All Day Menus.Check out the Fish Tacos and a Whiskey Joe's Red (their house beer).

Well it was still Castaway back in April when I created the post! I haven't tried it since they cutover. In years past, we frequented Whiskey Joes for their happy hour on the outside deck; beer cheese soup from the long-gone Crawdaddys, and the Rusty Pellican's buffet. Is it under new management or re-organization.

It's the same Whiskey Joe's, same ownership as you remember from years ago. It's just at a new location. Yeah, the Beer Cheese soup is back, as is the Gumbo.

Overall it's evolved to be a little more modern than the old Whiskey Joe's and it still has all the charm.
If you remember the Castaway..... You won't recognize the building once you walk in....
