When will the no txt or calling behind the wheel be a law! Hands free calling should be in place a.s.a.p. (car, cell phone)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the state government pass a law that prohibits individual municipalities from enacting cell phone laws? I think this was just a few years ago.

People have been shaving, reading, applying makeup, etc. while driving for 20+ years. I don't think a law against texting will magically make stupid people smart.

It will if it costs them money if they get caught doing it.

That is how it works in states that have made texting illegal.

Just making a point that any activity other than driving the vehicle is not a good idea. The government will use it as another way to make money and people who are caught will pay. If it saves lives then it will be worth it.

Maryland, one of the bluest of states, has put a ban on driving with a phone in hand. You wouldn't belive how many people I see yacking or texting away while behind the wheel - cops included. I was T-boned by a woman a couple of years ago while driving my truck and when she got out of her car she made a very public display - in front of everyone - about not being able to find her phone. Her lane of traffic was stopped at a light and other drivers were letting me pull into a driveway - we've all seen "Do Not Block Driveway" signs - and the woman decided to pass them all in the left hand turn lane to get ahead of them; duh..the light is red. I don't know how she didn't see me... mid day, bright and sunny and I have a bright blue full sized pickup; not camouflaged. She hit me hard enough in a little Nissan to get under my truck, lift me off the ground and set me down on the apron of the driveway. She hit me hard enough to break my axle.

Where was her phone? The way she was carrying on I would say she was talking on it and didn't want the police officer to think so. Other drivers came up to me and gave me their phone numbers as they were witnesses and PO'd at the woman.


A thought I had on the subject...is one more likely to be involved in an accident because you or another driver is distracted with a phone or be shot by a firearm? There are more cell phones than firearms in this country and more people carry them around openly or concealed. How many people drive around with a firearm in their hands versus those who have a phone?

The answer is easy. The fact makes cell phones a greater risk to the public.

Definitely irritating to see the driver next to you on the interstate going 70 mph with her face down and fingers typing on her phone. Just smh and hope they don't kill someone as they drive by.

That finger must be working over time if you see as many as I see on a daily base.

Aside from that the construction truck drivers ride like nut cases on St Rd 54 daily. They seem to enjoy blocking traffic by driving next to each other and to speed and cut others off.

Therefore it was fun to see 2 of them pulled over by cops and it seemed they got a ticket
