It's time to reshingle our roof. Can anyone recommend a quality company to strip the existing shingles and install new ones on a 2600 sq ft single story hip roof home in Palm Harbor? What would the estimated cost be for a job like this?

Two words: Angie's List.

An annual subscription is $25, I believe. I've been a member for years and it has more than paid for itself many times over.

Thx. I noticed the Angie's List symbol on a couple I have looked into so far.

Not only can you see ratings from actual customers, but a lot of the Angie's List businesses offer discounts to AL subscribers.

For something as substantial as a roofing job, any incentives will more than cover your annual subscription for several years, I'm sure.

Question Sharpe Professional Roofing?

I just got a quote from Sharpe Professional Roofing for 50 square. $12,700 for the replacement roof using GAF shingles. Add another $700 if I want some interesting upgrades. Is this a good quote and what are your experiences with Sharpe Professional Roofing?

We went with Sharpe Professional Roofing and they were phenomenal. They did top notch work. I watched them every step of the way. I couldn't ask for anything more. It looks beautiful. I love the fact we have the peel and stick underlayment. Basically water tight and guaranteed for life.

Rather than rolling on loose tar paper, before shingles, and nailing it everywhere, it is a thick rubberized membrane that has a sticky backing to it. It is the type of stuff they put on the first two feet of the roof up north to protect from ice backup damage. It bonds to the wood roof, so no nails are need. Then when you nail the shingles through it, it seals around the nails.

It's just about water proof. If a huge hurricane comes along and rips the shingles off, the membrane is still there to stop water from coming in.

I had a flat roof done with the membrane material. It was heated to activate the glue, but it sure was a tight roof. No shingles over it.
