I never thought of Tampa to be dangerous. As much as I do Miami and Orlando.

When I lived here as a college student in the early 1980s, it seemed to me that everyday you'd hear about murders (especially convenience store murders).......it was pretty bad. Maybe the drug traffic back then was a cause.

Tampa still felt pretty grimey well into the 90s. I'm not sure what happened, but something changed for the better.

Thats good to hear. Its so opposite in Orlando. I was born in 90 so I never been to Tampa before that. It just amazes me what a few good things for a city will do. Hopefully South Pinellas can tighten up.

Are these crime numbers for real? If they are crime in Tampa has dropped 70% in 5 years. Does it feel different or the same as when the crime was crazy?

I've never felt unsafe in most areas in Tampa. I don't know how crime was a few years back, but based on recent experience, it feels safer than most cities of similar sizes.

When I walk pass a black guy, I know he's not going to mug me according to the stats... I like the odds here in Tampa than in Miami.
