I'm moving to South Tampa from Tarpon Springs in order to be closer to my new job which is in downtown. I'm 24 so of course I will want to go out to the local bars and what-have-you's from time to time and just emerge myself in that local culture. I've heard (and seen the couple times I've been down there) that people are very concerned with physical appearances. I consider myself to be pretty cute but I can do a little toning up at the gym to look better .. which I will..... but are the guys in that area all vapid or what? I mean, with me it's not all about looks I mean of course there should be an attraction but I believe there's many other things that are important. Same for myself, I think I have a lot more to offer than just my looks. I put myself through college, and I'm pretty mature for my age. I have a lot more in my head than just going to the next party or the next dress that I'm going to buy. I'm not a *****, just a really easy-going, friendly girl. I despise drama and am just well-grounded overall. Seems like i may be the opposite from many of the people there .... From what I've heard from friends living there it seems that everyone is stuck in high school mode in ST? Am i better off not living there if my objective is to eventually find someone *mature* to be with? Is it just one big party there with everyone just looking to hook up and have casual sex? (I'm not into that by the way, so I want to know if I'm better off avoiding all guys in the area! lol)

I agree with you. I'm 24 and live in South Tampa. There are a lot of narcissistic guys out here, but there are also down to earth guys too. It's definitely a nice place to live and socialize.

It's the same as anywhere else, really. If you want to meet real people, don't exclusively hang out at MacDinton's or Hyde Park Cafe. South Tampa gets a bad rap from places like that alone, when in reality it is a large, diverse area with plenty of pockets of personality. It's like anywhere else, really.

I wanted to know something similar. Im moving back to tampa from boston and I dont have friends that live here anymore and if they do live here they are all married and dont want to hang out w/ a single guy. I also dont want to go to any of the SoHo bars (they were entertaining to go to when I would come back home during vacations, but I no longer want to have High School reunions w/ ppl that I have nothing in common w/). Are their any cool places that ppl hang out at in tampa. I heard a rumor that there is a old fashioned style speakeasy, which on paper sounds really cool. I also have NO idea where to go to meet girls and my job is not going to afford me that luxury. If anyone has any recommendations would love to hear them.

Join some sports league, i found pretty cool people there. Bars would not be my top priority for finding date, south tampa or no south tampa. As for living there, it's great area overall not just because bar scene.
