I very rarely see openings in corporate real estate and when I do, they want 5-10 years experience. Corporate RE is what I wanted to do when I started working on my RE degree, but once the economy crashed, they all disappeared. I've also looked at mortgage underwriting positions and positions with title companies, but like corporate RE, they experience requirements are high. It wasn't feasible to switch my major from RE to something else at the time, and I honestly didn't think things would stay this bad this long. So, I think it's time to start considering other fields and how to get into them. Fortunately my wife has a good position here in the Bay area so we are getting by, but that good position is also why relocating isn't an option. That and cost.

Thanks for all the replies so far!
Maybe something worth considering is an evaluation of what kind of work you should be doing? You got into real estate and found out you don't like selling, or maybe it's people you don't like (introvert vs. extrovert kinda thing.)

Real estate is more than just selling houses. In fact, the real estate program at the school I went to focused very little on selling. Most of the program focused on the financial analysis of income producing real estate.

When I got into the program, the economy was strong and there were plenty of non-sales positions in the field throughout the country. Once things went south, most of those positions dried up, hence my questions regarding fields with better opportunities here in the Tampa area.
