I was made a very nice offer for a job yesterday and I have a few days to think about this long relocation. My 2 big questions are. Is it reasonable to ask for a longer start date from now until May when the kids get out of school or is that typically too long of a wait? My other question is I have 2 boys 9 & 6 and I will need a part time baby sitter/daycare. What are my options without paying an arm and a leg?

We moved down here in April (6 weeks before school ended). It worked out okay for them. New kids come all the time. Have you thought of aftercare? I think you would have to pick them up by 6:00. Many of the out of school aftercare programs will pick the kids up from school. I have no idea how much they charge. In my neighborhood, there is kindercare. It is a pre-school, but they also have a before care and after care program as well as summer vacation program. Some karate schools have an aftercare program that picks them up at the school. Do you have any idea where in Tampa you want to move to?

On a very wide point of view, I would say it is too much to ask for that job to wait until your children finish school there, unless your position is one that is very hard to get someone to fill that position. You don't say which one it is.
You could work around that and just come by yourself , stay in a reasonable place and start looking around for places to live. Then the rest of your family can come in Summer.
