Have you looked into Dunellon? It's so lovely there … quiet and near the Rainbow River.

It would be neat to hear from people who have lived in Inverness for a long time to remark about how it's changed. Back in the 1970s Inverness was popular for folks from North Carolina to have a second home in that part of Florida because the cost of living was low even though the amenities were abundant. Quite a few people from places like Sarasota, Boca Raton, etc. would sell their homes in those increasingly expensive locales and move to Inverness and nearby places. In other words, it was booming. It's close to Crystal River, Dunellon, and Ocala. Just looking over this site and a few others about Citrus County and Inverness, it looks like it's still a similar situation today, but would love to know how it's changed. I plan to check out Inverness again soon, where I spent many a childhood summer with Grandma and Grandpa, playing golf in the 1970s, serving them drinks, and drinking beer as a kid The other similar option, believe it or not, is Campeche, México. Both have that beautiful limestone landscape with lakes, access to the Gulf, and reasonable cost of living for part-time early retirement and lots of freelance writing. I suppose it's a matter of whether I want more of an urban environment (Campeche) or a semi-rural one (Inverness).
