Hi there,
Currently I live in London, England.. I will be moving out to Tampa in January with my girlfriend.
I have absoultely no idea what so ever what to expect and where to stay!?! I was hoping someone could be so so kind and inform me the best places to rent/own that are of a nice nature..
We want to rent for 6 months then look to buy a house after that.
I was also wondering what taxes are like in the States, Insurance, traffic in tampa etc...??
My new offices will be down E.Jackson St.. so want to be out of the hussle bussle but not too far away that it takes like a year to drive into work!?
I hope someone can shed some light for me.

Dear Martin,
That's great news and a big welcome in advance! There are lots of us that can help you with your housing needs and questions.
Not knowing your lifestyle or budget makes it difficult to recommend best places. Since your office will be on Jackson, neighboring communities are Hyde Park, Palma Ceia, Davis Island, Harbour Island, Bayshore, SOHO, or if you don't mind condos, there are several newer construction projects in downtown tampa that would enable you to walk to work. Downtown does not have a fully developed night culture yet, so that may be boring for you.
Taxes are assessed on a sales price and a millage rate. You can read up on it at

Your homeowner insurance premium will depend on your home's replacement value, age, and location.
Traffic in Tampa like any other mid-size metropolitan city is busy during peak commute times and when there are accidents. Also, there is no mass transit system to speak of, so you will be driving wherever you need or want to go.
