Yesterday was the top day of annoying drivers and 100% of the bad drivers that I dealt with were txting while driving.

Waiting long before taking a right turn while no traffic was coming, than driving like a turtle and accelerating when you want to pass since they finished what they were txting...

One of these days one of them will end up in prison for killing someone while txting and wishing they wouldn't have done it and being on tv crying their eyes out and wishing they could go back in history and change it!

Another family heart broken of the loss of a family member due to some of these fools...at least txt at a red liht and than watch traffic...we never had txt year ago and we survived.

Don't get me wrong my phone is attached to me and I use it all day for emails, calls and txt but don't do it while driving and forget there are more people on the road and being stupid...it takes one fraction of a second to regret that stupid not important txt!

I'm sure alot of us can say we've done it (admittedly I did too) but you are right that it only takes less than a second for something to happen. With the way some people drive, you have to be on your game to react to some of the stunts that are pulled on the road, never mind being distracted by something else like texting.

A law was passed here in Mass but it's pointless, unfortunately. I have an hour commute each way so I see it all and I cannot tell you how many people I see with their head lowered looking down, driving 70 on the highway.

Texting (and calling) behind the wheel is a problem everywhere but our "culture" will continue to facilitate and "tolerate" abuse. Laws and enforcement like DUI is needed but a third rail politically and also difficult to implement, except after the fact (accident investigations).

There must be a measurable increase in 'unexplained' single car accidents, rear enders at lights, and crossover head-ons. It certainly looks that way based on my observation.

Try to teach your kids about the danger and enforce it by restricting their use of the car. It may save their and others' lives.

Oh, and be very alert all the time as you can't assume the other driver is really in control, even in the most 'normal' situations on the road.

The thing is that right now when you are involved in an accident and even if you are not at fault the other side will demand cell phone records to start to blame you and it will change the out come.

My family was involved in a car accident 7 years ago and they were not at fault and no cell phone were used and at the time we didn't have txt on our plan, but our records were pulled by the ins. company after a lawsuit was filed against the ins. company for not paying...In the end we won in a settlement since we got more than the ins. company would have paid if they kept them selves to the ins. contract...but just to show that years ago they already were doing that so now they will check that first thing!

they can blame you for 15% or more if you were txting and even did nothing else wrong.

I will talk to you when you make an error because you have to move over because someone is not watching the road due to texting and get in your lane and the damage is of a kind that it is hard to determine who is wrong and not one person is stopping to be your witness....

I know you will be happy if it can be determined that texting was not allowed and happened during that instead of dealing with legal texting while the person is not watching the road...

Guess we can get rid of DUI laws as well - since we already have enough laws.

...and burn the driving manuals as well since nobody bothers to read them......you should read the automotive forum...people really believe that it is OK to hug the left lane and not get out of it after passing someone! its quite incredible.

In NY you can't even talk on the phone (unless you have a bluetooth), let alone text...Its interesting how Florida is becoming some wild west(south) where common sense has been forgotten and laws are not even taken in consideration, let alone respected. Its pitiful really that people move here to trash our state!
