So I found these cool mountain bike trails at Alafia park while out riding my motorcycle. I'm looking for advice on what mountain bike to buy to go there and to ride on Bayshore? I'm considering a 29" adjustable front suspension, hard tail bike with disc or ceramic brakes. So far I've seen prices around $580-$690. Originally I only wanted to spend $150, but guess all those bikes suck.

Any suggestions, or does anyone ride there that I could tag along with on the beginner paths?

Hi there, welcome to the wonderful world of mountain biking! I have not yet relocated yet so I cannot comment on the trails but I have a couple of suggestions.

You definitely want to make sure you have front suspension. Some bikes come with both but there's a jump in price for that. If you have a choice of front or back, the front will be much easier on your upper body (depending on the climbing level, you are often times off your seat).

I also recommend these extensions on your handlebars. I had mine installed before I picked up my bike and I suggest a good rubber grip (as opposed to ones without shown in the photo below). These are GREAT to use when climbing.

I can't recommend a bike because I bought mine 10 years ago (still going strong!). But fwiw, it's a Rincon Giant.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy!

Alafia is a bunch of fun. I'm going to recommend the opposite of the above poster and say those extensions are awful. They get snagged on vines/branches/trees and it's no fun. I found my 2009 Giant Yukon FX with full suspension for $300 on craigslist. I would buy used if you're just trying to get into it. Not sure if I would go with a 29" either.
