Does anyone use a dehumidifier in their homes to stabilize the humidity in their house? If you do, does it have a tangible positive result?

Yes and yes.

I actually use one in my kennel and on a really rainy, hot day, it can collect as much as two gallons of water from the air!

I love mine! I find it as necessary as ac, lol (although it would be prudent to buy an energy efficient one, even if it's more pricey up front, as some of them can cost almost $50 a week to use!

I am going to ask a really dumb question...Wouldn't running the AC really dry the air in the home?

Not dumb . I find running the central air in my home makes for pretty decent humidity levels. Right now it is 44%. I'm good with that.

My dual-zone AC does the job. But I am looking into getting a dehumidifier for the garage.

Your AC should stabilize the humidity. If it doesn't, it's either not functioning properly, or is not sized appropriately for the home.
