I was at Hess station in Tampa and saw no security tape on any of their pumps, so I don't understand how people supposed to figure out if it's safe to use particular pump.

I would recommend using CREDIT cards only!

This ^^^^^!!!!

You used to be able to tell if there was a skimmer attached because it would feel a little snug when trying to put your card in the slot. Now, they're so sophisticated, you won't know.

I like convenience just like the next person but at gas stations now, I walk my credit card inside, even though I can pay at the pump. It can still get compromised that way, but it at least it won't be from a skimmer.

Why can't these people be caught there are cameras at the pumps. Also it takes time to open the cc part of the pump open and put the skimmer on. Or do you think it is an inside job.

My guess is they are doing it at night when the business is closed (and somewhat harder to view clearly from video) and coming on foot.

With the cases I work, I have great shots of the 'subject' but without a license plate from a car to go on (or other identifiable information) there's not much the police can do if it's reported by the merchant.

If they've got a key for the access panel then it could be done pretty quickly.

Surely the manufacturers of gas pumps key every lock the same. So all one needs is that key and that opens up a majority of gas pumps all across the country. There isnt that many manufacturers of gas pumps. Large chain companies would use the same pump throughout their system.

What happened to the hype about devices that are able to read your card in your wallet?

Over the last several weeks I spent a lot of money on gas traveling up and down the USA.....in my opinion, most of the stations were poorly run. There were several pumps that weren't working properly or the credit card reader wasn't operating. There were no signs or anything, leaving customer confused. How hard is it for these station operators to put up a simple sign. How times have changed in our country over the years......and not for the better.

Why can't they put an alarm on the pumps that can only be turned off in the station.

Probably because it would be cost to the station that they would need to recoup from the customer and gas prices can be competitive.

Your wrong the oil companies own the pumps not the owner of the station.
