Hi! My boyfriend and I are from NY and would really like to move to Florida within the next 6-9 months. We were thinking about Orlando, but now are looking into the Tampa area - specifically Clearwater. Could anyone provide us with some detailed info on the job/housing markets. We are looking to rent first and then possibly buy a home after a year or so. He is in the medical field and I am in the office administrative field. We are looking for apartments in the $1200 a month range and would like to be close to a 30's type crowd. We do not want to be around the bar scene, but like to see people around; like a typical up and coming neighborhood. Also, what about bugs? I read about Love Bugs in Orlando...what the status in Clearwater? Same? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions!

Love Bugs are no where near as bad as they are in Orlando!

Clearwater is very VERY spotty. Be careful to stay away from S. and N. Fort Harrison as well as anywhere even remotely near Palmetto St.

I actually recommend Dunedin-ish ... may be a "safer" bet than Clearwater. Head out to Safety Harbor too!

Like all larger cities, Clearwater has good and bad areas. Downtown is not great. Countryside is a nice area. The beach is spectacular but pricey. I prefer the smaller towns like Dunedin, Safety Harbor and Oldsmar. They are close to everything but are friendlier and safer. Medical jobs are in demand due to the aging population. Tampa Bay is a great place to live. I've been here 33 yrs and still wouldn't live anywhere else.

Thank you both for your informative responses. Looks like Florida is off the table for me for now.
