Unless you are being offered millions of dollars by the Tampa employer...don't leave San Diego...and even then I wouldn't make that move...

San Diego is a great place, except for the California attachment. Tampa is not San Diego, however parts of Pinellas County are awesome as well, but different than San Diego. You may like it here or hate it here, based off of your like or dislike for San Diego. I would research HEAVILY and visit during the summer to make darn sure you will like it here. I prefer the weather here over there, but that is different for different folks.

For a person who allegedly was born and raised here you really don't know much about Florida

I don't think the scholastic system in Florida would be a problem for a motivated kid. However, the impact of moving at this age could be significant. Unless you have an outstanding job offer that cannot be easily overlooked, you should talk to your son/daughter first.

Also, think about Florida weather. While nature is absolutely gorgeous here, not everybody likes the humidity factor (a one-week visit in August would be a good idea to see what I'm talking about).

Excellent advise. I always say, if you can tolerate August here or could scape to somewhere else, you are golden
