I work for TGH and its a good place, but perhaps not the most competitive for salaries. However, TGH is ranked among America's Best Hospitals, a Nursing Magnet Award winner, and recently voted Tampa's most preferred hospital for the second year in a row.

I have a friend who's wife is an RN at St. Joseph's, been there about 5 years and making 70k. She works 12 hour shifts(4 on then 3 off I think)...

Nurses got it made.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Probably have never been hospitalized. Nurses save lives. Hope you'll never need one - almost every person will someday.

If you work Med/Surg or ICU what are the usual nurseatient ratios?

Also, is there a push for hiring? I know Tampa General had a huge nurse layoff several years ago. Maybe things have changed. I'm in the military, retiring soon and always envisioned myself working at TGH. Very good reputation.

I'm in the Allied Health area and cant really tell you much about the nurse/patient ratios. However, I'm sure thats something the Nursing Magnet Awards consider... the Nurse Recruitment team at TGH can answer those questions for you if you call 813-844-7331. Theres always need for new RN's at TGH. The facility is undergoing a huge expansion and has long since passed those financial woes of a few years ago. Check out the site...

Tampa General Hospital

Good Luck...
