I find There is a huge difference how Atlanta homes and Tampa homes, Generally Atlanta homes appear taller, bigger and spacious for the same SFT home - why ?

When I visited Tampa homes appear to be almost driven into base and appear squished down and small - Is it me or Am I missing some thing ?

If you search on zillow for houses in Tampa palms and in Alpharetta you will see the difference that GA homes elevation appears taller, trying to figure out why ? I know it sounds stupid but really really curious

Maybe because some of the homes in Alpharetta have basements that stick up a few feet from the ground? Built on hills? I don't know. Just spitballing. You won't find basements in Florida. The water table is too high and the soil too sandy. We're on concrete slabs for the most part. But the houses themselves aren't "squished" or anything of the sort.

I have wondered why more homes by the water aren't built up on stilts in the Tampa Bay area. Wouldn't it help when the area floods?

Something like this...

It's because transplants like Florida more so builders pack homes together at zero lot line. You saw it right.

Packing them together allows for that community spirit in case they start missing where they came from ...

It probably has to do mainly with zoning (lot width/size) and buyer preference for style and layout in the different markets.

To take it to the logical extreme, compare housing styles in say Anchorage AK and Key West FL. The homes are quite different.

Probably because we have many more one story homes, compared to two or three story homes elsewhere.

One story homes are the preferred style here......for the most part. You can get two stories, but with as many older folks and people preferring an easier lifestyle, more single story homes are built.
