I hear horror stories about the abundance of Florida toll roads.

What's your average monthly toll fees on your commute and how long is your commute?

There are only two or three toll-ways in the TB area that I can think of and only one Skyway Bridge doest really have acceptable alternate roads if I'm not mistaken......not that bad, imo.

Unless you're going to travel down Veterans or the Selmon expressway every single day, I don't see a reason to worry. Plenty of side roads to avoid tolls.

We use the Veterans 5 days weekly and our bill is around $25 a month.

$32/mo up and down the Veterans. Certainly worth it to me.

All depends where you live in Tampa. When I lived there, I did not live near the toll roads. (mostly took 275 everyday!) I can count the amount of times I paid tolls in the Tampa Bay area on one hand, and I was there for 6 1/2 years. I paid more tolls when I went out to the Orlando area and the roads out in that area.

The one that really screws you is going the entire length of the Crosstown / Selman Expressway from south Tampa to Brandon. I think that 10 mile trek is up to $3 or more each way depending on how you pay. The expressway authority, which Tampa and Hillsborough collaborated on, tells you you should feel good about it though because the money stays right here in the area.

Not a bad drive if your work pays the tolls, but if not, that will rack up some expense quickly. It is much faster than going through 275 and I4 interchange though; that is simply a nightmare.

You are actually doing the city of Tampa a favor by not trekking though downtown adding to traffic if you take SR 60 instead of Selmon.....THE stretch couldn't handle the traffic.
