Can't say I agree with this though I'm not downtown Tampa. In deciding to relocate from south Florida, one of the factors which attracted me was that I found it to be a bit cooler and less humid than there in two ways which to me were significant.

One the somewhat shorter summers here. In south Florida, summer easily extends towards the end of October but here I notice a big difference a few weeks earlier, like in the last week of September it seems to start to cool down. Also winters seem to end a bit earlier down there but I notice more of a difference in Fall than in Spring.

But the big difference is every day at night time. When in south Florida, I could not walk the dog for more than a half hour in the evening without breaking out into a sweat. I nearly always went through two t-shirts just at night, never mind during the day. Here I can walk for an hour or more in the evening, even just during sunset, and not have to change my shirt. So I would have thought it much more sweatier in south Florida than here.

The study disagrees. Here's that...

Study ranks Tampa as 'sweatiest' city
Tampa residents apparently don't do so well when the heat is on.

A new study commissioned by the makers of Honeywell Fans ranks Tampa as the sweatiest city in America.

According to Honeywell officials, the rankings reveal cities that each have a unique ability to trap heat in the summer months, which contributes to overall discomfort and a need to beat the heat.

Scientists reviewed data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s National Climatic Data Center and the U.S. Census Bureau and based on their expert ranking, below is a list of the top ten sweatiest U.S. cities:

1. Tampa
2. Miami
3. Houston
4. San Diego
5. Orlando
6. Washington, D.C.
7. Raleigh
8. Los Angeles
9. Dallas
10. Charlotte

"When creating the first-ever sweatiest cities ranking with this new set of criteria, we looked at a range of environmental factors including average temperature and humidity levels during summer months, population and housing density, and average wind speed, which has an evaporative cooling effect," said Dr. Ted Myatt, ScD, Environmental Health & Engineering. "Geographic location has a major influence on temperatures, but so does infrastructure like residential buildings or heavy industry, which can trap heat or contribute to heat output. It’s no wonder why so many songs are written about hot times and summer in the city."

Well at least the sun is less intense up there. Down here I often feel like I'm being burned alive.

Some of those cities shouldn't even be on that list.

Cleans out the pours....keeps you healthy - finding that I'm less "fat" in the hot/sweaty weather than I'd be in cold country.

If anything Houston should be number one, that is a true cesspool of sweat.

I was in San Diego lat May and it was in the 70's with no humidity. Not sure why it is #4.

I have been to San Diego 3 times in July and there is no comparison to here. It is like night and day. Very low humidity/dew point, highs generally in the 70's. If I could afford it, I would spend July and August in San Diego.

I'm sorry but that list just can't be right. San Diego and LA shouldn't be on there at all and how is it New Orleans didn't make the list?

Why is DC on the list for that matter? Yes, summers are oppressive there, but they still get into the single digits come winter.
