Check out EG Simmons Park on the Bay in Ruskin. There is a playground area and beach area, pier. A nice park.

You missed the biggest parade that occurs each year on the last Saturday of Janaury since 1904. Gasparilla Invasion, Parade and Pirate Fest. Gasparilla Pirate Festival - Tampa, Florida

The Childrens Gasparilla Parade is the Saturday before, and a non-alocoholic event that is better for the kiddies.

Tampa ships the pirates back out to sea on February 9th at Channelside downtown.

A rowdier parade is on February 16th, the Gasparilla Night Parade in Ybor City.

Florida State Fair is February 7-18th Florida State Fair

Strawberry festival is first week in March. www.flstrawberrfestival.com (broken link)

There's also one near the Apollo Beach exit #246. It's just north of Big Bend on Bullfrog Creek Rd, the Vance V. Vogel park. Google it.

Bump and old thread....

I was out at Simmons Park today......lots of potential, but they really need to drag the beach once in awhile. Really an eyesore. Nice campgrounds, few playground, plenty of fishing, boat launch, kayaking, shelters for grilling.......$2/car.

Good biking and running area as well, imo....minimal car traffic.
