St. Petersburg mayor proposing plan for $6.5M BP settlement - Washington Times

Seems to me it would be best to pay off all debts, bonds first. St Pete has to have some bills like that.......or give police a raise, they deserve it.

Ferry to, from STP to Tampa......not sure if that's a good use of money.

Fort DeSoto is a mess from my understanding......use the oil money to fix it up and maintain.

City budgets don't operate the same way as family budgets....bonds are a good idea for long-term capital investments in infrastructure that can never be done on a pay-as-you-go plan.

Regarding the mayor's bike-share plan at the cost of $1 million....I dunno. I'm a big fan of getting people's fat arses out of their cars, but a million bucks seems high. Better to put it on a trial basis first at a much lower cost. These programs have had mixed results and I fear the long hot FL summers will hurt the chances of bike-sharing succeeding here. I bike and frankly it can be draining in the summer heat and humidity.

One council member is proposing going solar with County buildings...that's a great idea!

Seems like outstanding bonds with higher rates would be good to recall. But I'm not familiar with the bond process. Understand they're looking at fixing the waste sewer system, something Tampa desperately needs. Why not sit on the funds and use if, when next big tropical storm or worse hits?

Cops make plenty in St. Pete...the rest of the employees (many who have jobs that are just as necessary and as dangerous), not so much.

Anyway, I think the money should go to fixing the antique sanitary system. Using a million dollars for some bike whatever is nonsense.

From the article:

"....plans for adapting infrastructure to extreme weather and climate change".

Seems pretty smart, and an appropriate use of money from environmental damage.

And to all you climate change deniers, move on to crap on some other reply.

I would return it, due to not having a legitimate claim to it.
