Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the crime rate, or incidence of crimes, in "Valencia Lakes", an Over-55 Community in Wimauma, FL (SE of Tampa)? Some of the surrounding areas, including the small rural community of Wimauma, have some pretty disturbing crime rates. I am curious if the criminal activities (robberies, breaking-and-entering, etc.) have intruded into the Valencia Lakes community.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, as we are considering a move from out-of-state to this community.

Thanks!!

I lived there for about 6 yrs until last summer. They've had a couple of break-ins over the years, but nothing more significant that I'm aware of. A street neightbor had his lanai door opened and lost something - middle morning. Never figured who - landscapers maybe?

There was in incident where a perp jumped over the berm and tried to shatter a patio window to get into a house while running away from police from US 301. I think that was during a traffic stop on US 301. Wimauma had a murder last year - they have a huge immigrant population, unsure of the background or reason - drunk fight or something, most likely.

The VL community is putting up a huge wall around the front borders of the community - that with the berm should provide added security. I believe it is also to reduce any noise from US 301 widening.

I felt very safe and secure in Valencia Lakes while there. Biggest concern for me is the DUI or other hazardous driving in the area more than being a victim of crime. If I purchased there again, I'd stay away from the periphery homes, especially along US 301 - you'd think they would be the most likely victim of break-ins.

Visit this link and peruse the crime reports to see if Valencia Lakes/Wimauma is listed on them.....
