I'm looking at Channelside downtown as a possibility to rent a year from now, and need to be no more than a 30 minute commute (in traffic) to USF. I'm looking for an area somewhat walkable. When I view Google images it displays mostly condos/apts and no shops, restaurants, entertainment, Publix, nor green space for pets. What is it actually like there? Are they continuing to build? Supermarket? What is the age group?
Should I consider the Hyde Park/Bayshore Dr area?
Thank you in advance

They are about to break ground on a MASSIVE new project. I would not recommend someone to move there just yet. If you're looking for walkability and all that good stuff, look into South Tampa.

I thought Channelside was south Tampa. Can you recommend areas of interest please?

Channelside is in Downtown Tampa. South Tampa is not in Downtown Tampa.

For walkability, you'd need to live in Hyde Park Village and close to the heart of it. Even then, it is like Channelside in that it doesn't have large grocery store in walking distance. Definitely has the restaurant + bar + retail store portion. Same goes for Davis Island, all of the aforementioned but no grocery.

I'd say the only area that has grocery + restaurant + drinks + retail would be a tight area around South Howard (SoHo) near the Greenwise.

Downtown Tampa (not in Channelside district) does have Duckweed, which is a tiny grocery story focused on healthy options/deli.

Channelside does have a Duckweed now. It opened a few weeks ago at The Place. There are a handful of bars and restaurants here. Publix on Platt isnt that bad of a walk. You can take the trolly to Ybor and can get to both Ybor and Hyde Park for like $4 via Uber. There is a dog park on 12th Street next to Skyhouse too. Apartment prices are high and there is a large amount of young residents. There is a new condo complex being built as I type this. I love living here.
