No to the first question I guess and not to the second. The private buildings??? at least that much. WE were offered a converted gaarge, one tiny 1 br. for $850. The only thing we found for 750 was right near the air base and garbage. Just great! one more strike against Tampa in our eyes.
Found some nice ones here..

tampa bay area craigslist > apts/housing for rent: search for "Hyde Park"

a friend of mine lives in the Historic Hyde Park area in a very cute 800 sq foot one bedroom, its a historic building with four one bedroom units, nice courtyard and front porch area, and walkable to the village and South Howard Ave.

Default Thanks TG03

but we're very happy living in St. Pete right in the middle of everything I need. I can't walk more than a block on good days so walkability is not a factor for me. I can't do stairs and we have 2 kitties who were a problem for some of the "historic" buildings and private landlords. I refuse to de-claw and if they do claw a carpet it is either filthy or has urea based chems in it that I don't want to breathe anyway. Never had a cat, in 50 years, claw woodwork etc.
If our synagogue and horseback riding stable weren't in Tampa, I'd never cross that bridge again, well maybe to go to the Apple store in Int'l Plaza
