Check out Anna Maria Island, just off the coast from Bradenton.

Fantastic, small town atmosphere with great access to the entire Bay Area.

We lived in Atalanta, NYC and some little mayberry towns so we are flexible there. For retirement more towards places close to medical facilities but for sure not in a concrete town

Only west coast Florida. Been there done that in NYC, I need to get away from those folks and found mid-western foljs more to our style
Reverse snowbirding? Where are you from? Do you really like the snow and cold? If you do like the snow and cold, maybe you could buy a place you could rent to as a vacation rental, for more money during the high-season, while you are in the frozen tundra.

My personal favorite place on the SW Florida coast has to be Sanibel/Captiva Island. Reasons?

- Incorporated, so they have control over their destiny
- No highrise development
- No chain or big box retail; the only chain place on the whole island is Dairy Queen
- It's a town that reveres its' traditions and institutions
- BEAUTIFUL beaches, and you can walk to them in most places
- Bailey's General Store, the best supermarket on the planet Bailey's General Store - Sanibel Island Shopping
- the Mucky Duck

It's an incredibly open and welcoming place that offers a great QOL. Definitely check it out.
