Hey Everyone, I just moved to Tampa this past fall and I love fishing. I was more of a fresh water fisherman but I want to get into Saltwater Pier fishing. What is a good type of fish? I was thinking Mackerel. Also, what is the state laws on fishing? Do I need a license? Certain fish stamps? Thanks in advance.

There are so many rules and regs in Florida. Size limits, amount and season limits. Then you will need to know what's edible or not.

Go here - Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission - Fishing in Florida to get started.

Live shrimp is probably the most popular bait, the bait store will also give you the rules and regulations you have to abide by. Walmart sells the fishing licenses.

Fish offshore 50 miles or more and forget crappy inshore fishing. Snapper and porgies.
