So i went out today to take my recycling out, i went over to the side of the house and i noticed my big BLUE bin had writing on the top of it.. as shown here... If i do something wrong a friendly note about it would be cool. I feel this is offensive and rude to write on my permanent container.

What are your thoughts?

Just paint over it and beat the person that did it.

What was it you think you did to incur the wrath of a neighbor?

It was not a neighbor. Why would they care? Nonetheless the 2 lots next to me are open land, and the 2 closest neighbors are very friendly with me.

Progressive waste is replacing the bin

I don't know if I'd call it offensive, but whatever. They were simply writing the info that is actually already printed on the can, since you didn't follow those instructions I guess they were making it more obvious for you. If you put it in wrong direction you were already being rude, but I know tit-for-tat isn't a good solution.

I was taught that I had no right to write on things that didn't belong to me.

Totally unnecessary remark, and not too polite, either.

Agreed. It was likely the recycling guys.

If the can isn't pointed the correct way the machine that dumps them won't work right and the cans all wind up on the ground, and they have to pick them up.

Do try to do better. It takes a village for all of us to make everyone's job easier.

I'm sure the note was a lot nicer than if she'd been outside and could hear the workers cussing up a storm because someone couldn't be bothered to point their can in the right direction.

Do you own the cans there? I was under the impression the cans were the property of the collection company. My last collection company warned me that if the cans weren't returned they would charge me some exorbitant amount of money.

To be clear, the can doesn't belong to homeowner, it belongs to the hauler/recycling company. I guess the employees therefore have the right to write on it.

Maybe they thought, since can was put int wrong direction that homeowners was unable to see the words that were stamped into the can (perhaps this isn't the first time it was in wrong direction too). They then printed it clearly just trying to be helpful.

Bottom line, if instructions were followed as stamped into the top of the can (and visible in the picture) they wouldn't have left the hand written instruction. I was taught to follow directions.
