I remember way back when crack cocaine was ravaging the inner city's at an alarming rate. People demanded the government do something to stop it. Tough new laws were passed against dealers and users of crack back when politicians still had the spine to be tough on crime. It was very effective, so much so that 20 yrs later professional protesters complained that the laws were raciest and too many black men were going to jail.

Sounds like you all have the answers to fix the problem. Lock all of them up for a long, long time. But you put these kids in jail for a long, long time, don't expect them to come out of jail better people.

Me? I think there's more involved. Gotta abort 'em early on in the pregnancy and even more proactive, provide contraception. Find ways to keep single, minority women from having kids they can't supervise, discipline or even afford to raise.

Those days are gone, not going to happen. Today's politicians don't have the spine to actually tackle a problem. Much easier to go after killer cars. LOL They will put together a panel that will study the problem. Pass a few good sounding laws that don't do anything to help the problem. Install a few more basket ball courts with lights then say all's good.

If only someone had done some hardcore research into that... Oh, wait!

The problem this thread is about however is with minors who have no fear of doing criminal activities and the total lack of supervision by responsible adults to teach them and stop this wilding. Should 14 and 16 yr old thugs, kids be locked up with hardened adults forever?
Obviously incarceration does not work, at least the way it is now.

But it would reduce their welfare checks.

Its 3 days in Juvenal lockup then they get released to the streets again. 126 arrest between the 6 young boys. Seems like its working just fine, last thing you want to do is inconvenience the young men by sitting in jail.

Hard to say how many have avoided a thugs life with threat of jail time. Obviously the slap on the wrist that the juveniles received for the combined 126 arrests didn't do the trick, and BTW their parents didn't do their job either.

In Europe sentences are less and European politicians are proud to tell you how great that is.

What they fail to tell you is that the percentages of crimes of burglaries, car theft, people robbed in brought daylight, pick pocket thefts, etc. are a very high percentage.

Just land on Schiphol airport and you will not just see the warning signs, hear the warning announcements and see women walk in the street with cross body handbags under their coats or just having money on their body. You won't see as many women walk down the street with purses like over here as your purse will be gone.

Car break ins are not covered over there under insurance unless it is broken windows or car locks broken open but radio's, valuables, etc. are not covered as since ins. Companies stopped covering that, the people stopped leaving them in their cars.

Unlocked cars are not covered for break ins.

Vandalism and violence in the street is also at a n all time high over there.

When you hear politicians over there say how empty the prisons are... well than keep the above in mind that the public is NOT safe!

How can you say incarceration does not work? What is the crime percentage of these criminals when they are locked up? Other then what they do to their fellow criminals on the inside walls and or possible any guards? Seems like a win-win for us.
