To stay or to go. I just don't know.

We've only lived here 3 years so I have no idea what our area is going to be like.

When are you going to decide? We live in St Pete, near the starbucks at 4th St and 50th Ave

Silly me, in Chicago and flying back tomorrow. Thought about staying here but need to get back to get our dog from dog sitter. If Irma continues to track towards Tampa or the spine of the state we'll get hurricane shutters up and the make decision on heading north.

So if it hits Monday, what day would be the best day to bug out...Friday soon enough or late?

also wondering which state to head - I guess anywhere a few hundred miles inland would be much better than near the gulf.

Folks, it will be a crapshoot. I have never evacuated and I see the problems with doing so. Unless you get out WAY in advance, our already burdened highways turn into parking lots. To me there would be nothing worse than being stuck on a highway with pets, running out of gas and in a raging storm/flood. There is also the fact that many don't really have a good place to go. Not everyone is retired, healthy, young, mobile, etc. there are logistical reasons why leaving can be difficult for many. And then there are the looters. I am not saying anyone should or should not leave, just pointing out some issues.

Honestly, I don't know anymore. With a storm this size, I don't know where we would go. My husband is out of town and gets back tomorrow, so we will have to discuss.

I was looking at the same thing. Based on current info, get out of Florida and head west towards Alabama and Mississippi.

As soon as you can tell where it's going. I remember watching Harvey news, they said 12 people died during the evacuation. Apparently it always happens, but what happens, how do they die, I get you run out of gas you are with thousands of others so what happens they just let you die, people forget their meds?

yes, was thinking Vicksburg area Mississippi or Montgomery, AL---I was just there last month - still could be in the zone, though

I was looking for ideas on decent places to head towards, figure might as well make it a short getaway.
Montgomery is probably on a wait and see depending on the path. Worst case, we have family in southern Mo, so could just head there and sit it out, but that's about 13hr+ trip.
