Good news for the winner in that FL doesn't tax the winnings, right? Just the Fed. Maybe they'll build a nice huge mansion here in the state and pay taxes on that, though.

"A total of $18.1 million was generated for education in the state of Florida from the $450 million jackpot"

"Since the Florida Lottery was founded, it was given more than $32 billion to education in the state, allowing 775,000 students to attend college through the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program"

seems like a win to add some of that money to Florida education

Rep. Can't see why anyone would be down on a Floridian winning.

20 yr old's life is about to be dramatically changed. You hear so many of these winners having life issues, money issues afterwards. Hope he doesn't.

The attorney with Walt Blenner of Blenner Law Group issued a statement saying his client, Shane Missler, 20, was the winner of a $451 million Florida Mega Millions jackpot. He redeemed it Friday in Tallahassee, along with his father and the attorney, the statement said.

He chose a one-time, lump-sum payment of $281,874,999, the Florida Lottery said.

Missler, from Port Richey, bought the winning ticket Friday, Jan. 5, from a 7-Eleven on Ridge Road in Pasco County. He used the winnings from a scratch-off lottery ticket to buy five Mega Million quick-pick tickets, the statement said. The winning numbers were 28-30-39-59-70 with a Mega Ball of 10.

The 7-Eleven where the ticket was purchased will get a $100,000 commission.
Missler's attorney said the 20-year-old recently "retired" from his job at a Tampa Bay-area background screening company, saying he looks forward to a future taking care of his family and wants to try to remain grounded.

He also plans to move out of the Tampa area, Blenner's statement said.

Nearly 70% of lottery winners end up broke within seven years. Even worse, several winners have died tragically or witnessed those close to them suffer.

Sounds like he's smart and getting good advice. The money is in a trust, which should keep him from blowing all of it on stupid stuff. Lets be real, he's 20. He's entitled to blow some of it on stupid stuff.

I wish this 20 year old all the best and he either got a good writer or has a smart brain as his statement was funny and very smart!

Yeah, I saw that he already had an attorney on board and financial guidance. Not many 20 year olds would be that savvy. Hope he does well with it.

Too bad that he's probably become VERY popular with old "friends" and distant relatives.... that would be the worst part of something like this - that and all the harassment you would get from people wanting to get money from you or looking for assistance.
