Hi guys,

I'm looking for a safe residential area in Tampa. My budget is $1,100 for a 1,100 sq ft two bedroom either house or apartment --no preference. I love the SoHo/Hyde Park area but can't afford it. So far, I have narrow down my options to these two.

- Which of these two is safer?

- Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Apartment complexes in TNC are not that great. Seen cars up on blocks with the wheels stolen more than once. Lived in the area for 41 years as i lived in Danashores just to the south. Area has gone way downhill since the 60's and even then it was not the best. But most any apartment place no matter where has it's share of crime. Carlton Arms to the north would be a better place in the Lutz area just off the Vett's brett.

Thanks! I'm checking on Carlton Arms. Have you seen/heard anything on Wellswood?

Thanks again!

I recently moved into a Carlton Arms Lutz townhouse and there was (is?) a 6 month waiting list which should tell you the desirability of the place.
No app fee, no admin fee, free basic cable, free water, garbage and sewage.
No nickel and diming you like other places.
Only been here about 5 months but so far we are loving it.
Very quiet on a lake and very convenient to the Suncoast Parkway Ray.

Wellswood isn't a bad neighborhood at all IMO.
If you could tell me the names of the street your looking at in TnC I might be able to give you better advice. But for the most part I'd choose Wellswood over TnC. (I grew up in TnC).
Carlton Arms North off Van Dyke is pretty decent for an older complex, (there's another Carlton Arms off of Himes thats not so decent).
But keep in mind the traffic coming and going from Carlton Arms North to and from Tampa during rush hours is a b*tch because there's pretty much only 2 routes, the 589/Veterans toll road or Dale Mabry.

If your considering any of the complexes off of Hanley they all 3 are a little rough.
This complex is pretty decent IMO

Thanks! I'm also inclining towards Wellswood. I've read better things about it.
I'll be able to drive by sometime next week, that also will help me.
This is the zip code of the area 33603 in Wellswood.

Yup! That's exactly the one I have in mind. My issue is that I'd like to find a safe neighborhood, not just a street or complex.
