So, I'm going to be in the greater Tampa area for a year or so. I'd like to keep my rent under $1000. We are two middle-aged professionals with two active dogs. We run our own business and keep random hours. We are quiet and like it to be relatively quiet. We walk A LOT. Sometimes we are out walking at 3am. Taking a 5-6mi walk at 2am is pretty normal. Are there any areas with sidewalks, in my price range, that are safe and somewhat urban?

Walking around at 3am is not advisable ,cops will harass you and you'll be a target for those with ill intent.

"Under $1000" doesn't exist here in an urban environment, at least not one that is safe, especially at 3 am.

For that matter, it doesn't exist in a suburban environment, either. You need to do some research, as $1000/month will barely get you into something decent in a safe area.

55+ communities would be safe ---mobile home type places maybe hopefully gated.....or find a place with a treadmill for you --not sure how to get the dogs their exercise

Danashores is way over rated lol. It was "ok" maybe back in 1967 but its far from great.
Especially Eden Roc Cir. some real dirt bag, crack heads lived in that street before they moved to Pasco.

As far as OP taking late nite walks, I think its great that some people are not so afraid to do some things they want to do.
You can walk through almost any part of Hillsborough County at any time of the night and not have any kind of problem with the exception of a few obvious areas that you probably wouldn't visit even in the day time.

As far as finding a decent place in a good area for around 1k a month, they are out there, you just have to look.
Here's 1 of many apartments in the Palma Ceia area for that.https://www.apartments.com/the-oaks-...pa-fl/9wv1fs7/

Thank you for that listing, KPB. It looks like there are a few places under $1000 near it too. Is it true that 33609 is a low crime area? I haven't been able to locate crime info for Hillsborough County online.

I've lived on the east coast of FL and Orlando for most of my life, but I've never spent any time on the west coast. Can you tell me where these "obvious areas that you wouldn't visit even in the day time" are? I'd like to avoid them.

If someone asked me for areas to avoid in Orlando, I'd say most everything west of I4 from Metro West up north to Rosemont, along 17-92, Millenia Mall area(with exceptions), parts of Kissimmee.

Is Ybor dangerous? Are there parts of Clearwater and St. Pete to be avoided too?

MortonR - "You need to do some research," - I am trying. I have been reading these forums, looking at reviews, using google street view, and more. I haven't been able to find crime data in the county tho.

TBMorgan - 55+ would be great, but we are in our early 40s.

I walked my dog after midnight often around my neighborhood, (seminole/largo border near to Oakhurst rd)
Its very quiet here at night, except for the occasional siren from an EMT call - why they need sirens when there is nothing on road I have yet to figure out!

Really? Can it be that difficult? Of course it’s not:
