Hi. Was wondering how safe is the Tampa bay area? What areas of Hillsborough and Pinellas are safe with low crime
rates?
Thanks!

I live in North Pinellas. Crime rate here for the whole town is less than 1/3 that of the state average. It’s generally considered to be a very safe area.

Without consulting the crime maps from the FBI and other sources, I would say that crime is relatively low across the board with a few exceptions such as East Tampa and north of Ybor City. These are somewhat shabby areas anyway, so most people would recognize they're in an area that's sketchy to begin with.

The suburbs as a whole are low crime areas for sure. Did you have a particular area in mind?

Some of the safest areas are:
Dunedin
Safety Harbor
East Lake
New Tampa
Feather Sound
Every Pinellas beach town
Keystone
Lutz
Odessa
Cheval
Wesley Chapel
Fishhawk
Westchase
Countryway
Citrus Park
Most of Palm Harbor
Most of Tarpon Springs
South Tampa (South of 275) with the exception of Port Tampa
St. Petersburg from Central Ave to about 66th N

I’m sure I’m leaving quite a few places off, but those are plenty to choose from.

Tampa is one of the safer big cities in the US. There is obviously crime, like every single city in the US, but I wouldn't call it a crisis. If that's your only criteria, look in SE Hillsborough, NW and NE Hillsborough, Wesley Chapel, south Tampa.

Thank you all. Im trying to find low crime areas that are reasonably affordable places to live that are near some good job areas.

That would be a Unicorn City. As a bonus its walkable, with rainbows every sunday.

What's "affordable"?

One bedroom apartments are easily $1,000/month and up, depending on the area, unless you want to live somewhere that's sketchy.

More information as to your requirements will yield far more valuable responses.

I would say a 1 bedroom studio or apartment for 1k a month?. How is the New Port richey area? Is it sketchy? Or ok?

As for jobs, I work for Allstate as a customer service rep in NY currently. Is the overall job market good there? Can I make 40-50k a year there? I also have a medical assistant and med tech background.
