Hey there,

Looking to move to the Tampa area. Husband works from home and we are empty nesters. Budget is 1 to 1.5 mill. What neighborhoods should we look at? Also, we will most likely rent first. Any suggestions on an upscale condo or apartment to rent.

Thanks!

With that budget you will have lots of options. Most upscale condos in that pricerange would not be in the suburbs but rather in Channelside, Downtown, or Bayshore.

If you want a more suburban lifestyle which is still close to the city and not far from the beaches, Westchase is a great master planned community. Well maintained, convenient, and very safe.

I agree on Westchase. Westchase, along with the communities on Racetrack between Countryway and Mobley Rd are very nice.

What are your interests? Beach? Restaurants? Clubs? Live performance shows? Travel?

When you buy, are you looking for high rise condo? SFH? What size home do you need/want? 3 Bedrooms? 4 Bedrooms? How many baths? Pool?

You are priced well but you need to decide what you want to do before determining where to live.

The general environs at Tampa Bay are very varied.

I will need a 3 bedroom and 2 bath. I am flexible on rental but care more about location. Would prefer something on the new /updated side. I want to be in a safe area and no more than 10 /15 minutes away from grocery shopping. I walk my little pups, so something near walking path or sidewalks.

Westchase sounds perfect for you. Most of the homes were built in the 1990's but are updated and constructed well. There is a Publix grocery in the neighborhood and a Winn Dixie just outside of it. It is very safe. There are really nice walking paths throughout the whole area and two "town center" type semi-urban developments with shops and restaurants.

Check out Fishhawk Ranch and the areas around it. Loads of options in your price range there.

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. It definitely helps to narrow it down for me. I think I would like to be closer to the beach/water and the airport. I like grocery shopping at Whole Foods and think the areas near downtown would fit my criteria. I like Hyde Park Village and would like to be close to that area. I also like Davis Island and Bayshore Drive. All this is from the internet pictures so I know its not the real thing but it is as good as I can get until I visit. I just want to narrow down my areas when I do tour the area next month.

These are good choices and would definitely suit your needs.
