Just curious, are there wild parrots and parakeets in North Tampa / North Hillsborough County area?
I know they would be "invasive" non-native species, but are they found in this area?
If yes, are they viewed as pests or do people put out bird feeders to attract them?
(I read that wild parrots are fairly common in the Miami area of Southeastern Florida.)
Thanks!

Yes. They are here. I love parrots/parakeets, so I find them to be adorable. LOUD, but fun.
Go to Wall Springs -- you're bound to see some Monks at the very least.

I have seen budgerigars on occasion as well. Last time we encountered one, my son was able to hand-feed it. I have pictures. Adorable.

St. Petersburg has a lot of monk parakeets and nanday parakeets. They’re hit or miss in Hillsborough County. I see monk parakeets fairly often in NW Hillsborough, but I don’t recall ever seeing them in S Tampa, downtown, Carrollwood, or New Tampa.

To be honest, people don’t really seem to notice them.

Yes. There is a parrot flock (pandemonium) that fly about. Very fast and loud. Green and blue. I think maybe they spend the night at Busch Gardens and head to Lettuce Lake Conservation Park for the daytime fun. Florida nature at it's best!

They are a NUSANCE and damage equipment because they nest in electrical substations... giant nests. Many power outages from them. UGH! They're as bad as Iguanas and Pythons.

Millions of wasted dollars every year from them. https://www.stpetebikingtours.com/po...ots-in-st-pete

The quaker parakeet is native to Argentina and nearby countries in South America, where it inhabits subtropical areas. The quaker parrot adapts very well to urban landscapes and, as a result, there are numerous feral populations in North American as well as in Europe.

They are very common in South Florida. Like other non-native species... someone's pet got free... a few someones, and now they thrive in Florida. There are millions of them all over South Florida... and as it gets warmer, they start spreading out to the rest of the state as well.

We also get peacocks as well... which prefer the more rural areas to urban. Here in the Fishhawk area, there are a bunch of blue peacocks that roam around the more wooded areas and hang out in the streets. All the people who have recently moved from up north get all crazy and slam on their brakes and sit there and watch them. Haha...

We also get these enormous turtles (the size of manhole covers) that cruise around in the woods and you can see them when they're crossing open fields.

Lots of interesting animals in Florida...

Yup. Hillsborough County has Monk, Nanday, and Black Hooded. We live in Carrollwood and see lots of them daily. I love them! Even though they are invasive, we used to have Carolina Parakeets but they are extinct for about 100 years so I feel like the little guys we have now kind of fill that ecological niche; but maybe I'm justifying my affinity for them.

That's the way I see it too... The Carolina parakeets pretty much did the same thing. Being extinct, I just see these little guys as an ecological replacement.
