I love BBQ sandwiches, but I'm not having any luck finding something good near me. I usually only want one, maybe two, sandwiches when I order, and places like Sonny's only sell plates, not individual sandwiches. I went to another shop just south of Belair and just off Hwy 19, but I didn't like theirs at all. There was one place on Bay in Largo (the BBQ Shack) that I loved, but they went out of business last year, due to Covid I assume. If anyone knows something, please let me know.

You can order a sandwich at Sonny's. I do it all the time. You can get pulled chicken, pulled pork, smoked turkey, brisket, etc. You can pay extra to add fries and a drink to make it a meal.

Check out Homestyle BBQ on ALT-19 in Clearwater, a few blocks south of Sunset Point at Fairmont Street (west side of ALT-19). Excellent real deal smoker BBQ with sandwiches and platters. The Pulled Pork sells out a lot I think so if going get there earlier than later, and by the way he's open just Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

Bit of a drive but try Willy Jewells on Ulmerton.

If you can get to New Port Richey then check out Roberts Smokin' BBQ. Some of the best BBQ I have had.

Honestly, I’ve never had exceptional BBQ in this area. There may simply not be anything great.

FL, despite what some say, is not known for great BBQ, or even good BBQ. There are some exceptions but they're few and far in between.

The que gets better once you cross into SC on I-95.

I agree.

Your best bet is probably just to "play it safe" and go to Sonny's, which is decent for what it is.

Yes. Agreed. And this rule also applies to Thai, Japanese and many other cuisines.

In most places in the US, people's perception of Thai food is generally just some noodles with cheap meat chunks tossed around in a generic store-bought sauce.

"Japanese" is almost always some strange sushi creation that would likely get you kidnapped if served in Japan. Oh, and everything must be Tempura fried.
