Hi all,

Need to likely be in Tampa for the next 3-4 years while my family stays in another part of the state. Work opportunities in Tampa are much better. I'll be working downtown and need a place that is affordable, walkable. I wont have a car, and likely will be using Greyhound to get home on the weekends.

I've taken a liking to Hyde Park, but also open to Ybor. I need to be as close to possible to $200k for a simple place to lay my head at night that is safe. Would prefer condo in order to avoid having to take care of exterior maintenance.

ANy condo community suggestions?

Honestly, $200k won’t get you much, if anything at all in either South Tampa or Ybor. You might be able to find an old shack in the hood…

My suggestion: why not just rent a simple, modest apartment/condo downtown or Channel District? You can get a place like this for just over $2,000/month and be walking distance from literally everything.

Also, if FlixBus is available to take you wherever “home” is, I highly recommend using them vs Greyhound. Much better clientele in general.

$200-something may be doable if you just want a 1/1. Even then, there are only a few buildings with prices that low. I see one for $250k in Hyde Park, that might be a good option for you.

I have a friend that lives in that building. Great location, solid building, thick walls (can't hear neighbors.)
If OP is fine with a 1/1, and is okay wiggling up that price a bit, I also recommend this.
I was considering moving there myself a few years ago.

I don't recall central air in there though, so one would have to be fine with window units. Probably not too bad for a small 1/1 of that size. I was looking at a 2/2, and that kind of turned me off.

I was under contract on a 2/1 there about 10yrs ago. I backed out during the inspection period once I figured out the gym was directly above the unit and I didn’t want to deal with the noise. Otherwise though, it was a great value for that area.

Agreed. Used to be cool, but not anymore. I would avoid Ybor at all costs.

Great feedback folks...very much thank you. I checked out that 1/1 on Azeele. The building is solid. Concrete block. But man is it so tired inside and out. There's a special assessment to renovate the grounds. Its also on a main road so the noise factor is pretty high. Wish it were one or two blocks further in.

Noise isn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t call Azeele a “main road.”

I have a relative that lives in Hyde Park. Its ok, I've been there a few times. Not sure 200K will get you into something you will actually want to own. Watch for flooding issues, that whole area is very low.
