My entire complex was built recently (not sure when. I moved in May 2008), and my neighbors informed me that all the units were made of chinese dry wall. We have had numerous problems with our air conditioning that just don't make any sense.

Example:

It will shut off randomly at times for no reason.

I will set it at 70 degrees and then come back 30 minutes later to see that it has reset itself to 78-80 degrees.

Many people in our complex are upset about it. This past winter it has been working fine. It tends to have the most problems during the Summer time.

We have a home that was built in 04 with drywall that does not have the odor and has not destroyed a/c, thank goodness! But we have had issues with crumbling when we were hanging pictures, drapery rod's, etc. it would take forever to get anything to hold. All is done now, but it was very wierd getting thing's to hang properly and using anchor's when we should not have needed to. My husband complains more of constant allergies and we have more dust in this house than any we have ever lived in, however we are on the wood's and this is a newer neighborhood with road widening taking place a mile from here. We were thinking possibly the drywall got wet while building. The builder said everything was fine, but after reading this I saw the builder TaylorMorrison listed, which was our builder.

Has anyone had the problem with the crumbling drywall?

How can you tell if a home has Chinese drywall? It's a simple question without a simple answer. The Florida Department of Health has a Web site section devoted to the problem, however, and it updates information as it comes in. Since it helps to understand what kind of damage tainted Chinese drywall can cause, one section, "Case Definition with Pictures," includes photos of mirrors, pictures, pipes and other household items impacted by the drywall. The Web site also explains how the state plans to deal with the problem and includes details on how to file a complaint. For more info, visit the site at: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Environment/community/indoor-air/drywall.html
