Hello everyone!

Thanks in advance for any information you can pass my way!

My husband is considering an opportunity to relocate to Tampa. He would be working near USF. We are a family of four with two little boys so we are considering a move to New Tampa or any close area north of USF. Ok, that was my bio, now my question:

Which highway is better to commute to and from? Bruce B Downs or I75? And why?

When you say 'near' USF, where exactly. BBD would be good for USF campus and/or areas west of campus, I-75 would be good for areas East if the campus off Fletcher or fowler ave.

Depends where you live. If you live in Wesley Chapel you might be better off taking St. Rd 56 and go onto I-75 south. The Bruce B. Downs will be widened and many times only 1 lane is open which will course traffic to be jammed... It also depends on what times of the day you have to drive the route....

Well, we don't know where yet. We are looking to rent for a while. Probably a house as opposed to an apartment. My husband would be working on 30th street and Fowler to be more exact. Although, Bruce B Downs seems closer, I wonder with the construction if traffic would be worse there seeing that I75 is not that much farther.

I am trying to pinpoint a certain area to look for homes to rent. $2000 - $2500 a month range.

I wouldn't even bother with I-75, unless, like bentlebee said, you live in Wesley Chapel. I live in Tampa Palms. It would take me around 15 - 20 minutes at most to get to that area. Bruce B. Downs Blvd becomes 30th St. after Fowler Ave. Even if you lived off of Cross Creek Blvd, you would still have to drive down to I-75, deal with that traffic, get off on Fowler, drive several miles to 30th and deal with that traffic. Taking the highway might even be the longer route. I don't think the traffic is causing more traffic. If you lived in Tampa Palms, you would avoid all that and the traffic of people trying to get to I-75. You could easily find a nice home for your price range.
