My husband and I are making plans for a one-month 2010 winter Florida vacation. We are interested in a nice town with a laid-back vibe.

We're not into the tourist DisneyWorld-type vacation, or the Naples vibe this time around. Those are both very nice, but a bit too intense for what we're looking to enjoy.

He found some cute cottages to rent right on Indian Rocks Beach. Looks nice, with a low-key "shorts, t-shirt & flip flops" atmosphere. We're also looking at a rental in Dunedin.

Which town (or another suggestion) would be great for a laid-back vacation consisting of hanging on the beach, riding bikes, lots of walking, casual but good dining, and most of all...relaxing? Thanks in advance!

I think either place would be nice. I admit to having a fondness for Indian Rocks beach, though. That is where we always used to go for vacations (from Tampa lol) when I was a kid. We would rent those quaint places on the beach and just relax and have fun, just loved it. I haven't been for years though, so not sure how it is today, but it sounds like you found some quaint places to rent, so it might be nice.

Have fun!

Thank you Gypsychic! Hopefully Indian Rocks Beach is still as nice as when you vacationed there.

I'd have to give a thumbs up on Indian Rocks Beach as well. It is a nice little family community. It's not too touristy either.

I would have to say Indian Rocks Beach as well, since you are looking for a laid-back vacation consisting of hanging on the beach, riding bikes, lots of walking, casual but good dining, and most of all...relaxing.
Downtown Dunedin would be nice for the walking, casual but good dining but you would have to commute to either Clearwater Beach (pay for parking) or Honeymoon Island ($8.00 to get into to go to the beach.
At least at Indian Rocks you can get on the beach free and you dont have to worry about paying for parking. Also as a bonus, you can either do lots of walking along the roads of the beach or walk on the beach whereas in Dunedin you have no choice but to walk on the Pinellas Trail or the sidewalks.
Hope you enjoy your vacation!!!

I would think Indian Rocks would be an enjoyable experience for your vacation or Anna Maria Island, which is just favolous.

The whole Indian Rocks/Indian Shores area is very quiet. Even Gulf Boulevard shrinks down to two lanes.
