Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club is threatening to double homeowners' fees after the residents refused to buy the struggling golf course and country club.

"To help cover debt service and club operations, the club is amending the Membership Plan to allow the monthly amenity fee to increase from $125 to $185. We will also be implementing a $750 food minimum per household for the restaurant."

Mounts said the food charge equates to a fee, and with those added charges, a homeowner would go from paying $1,450 a year to $2,920.

Golf community teed off over fees

Google the community and check many websites and ask neighbors before signing your contract and get in the middle of a HOA/CDD fight and end up paying double, and not being able to sell your home due to ridiculous high fees.

I've always wondered about this. Can they arbitrarily raise HOA fees like that?

WOW..........That's crazy.......I would just turn the darn Golf Course into a park and leave it alone.....I don't think there are enough Golf Players to justify having one........

I have no clue if they can or not....but I know they are able to raise them, but I'm unsure by how much...and some HOA board members have no clue how to collect money in a good way from Ho who don't pay and because of that the HOA can loose lot's of money. Most HOA's are run by HO and many of them never run a business. In this case the HOA is still part of the developer and developers have the majority vote and basically can do "almost" anything...

Sun City Center also is having that problem with WCI (home builder/developer) going bankrupt.

Wow....people should really do a good due diligence, because no one else will do it for them who is involved in the transaction!
