We currently own a home in palm harbor. We are looking to move down full time within a year.My wife is in the medical field,And i am an electrician.I have been an electrician for 26 years and i am looking to change careers.I have always wanted to be in law enforcement but never did.My question is after looking a various websites, hillsborough sheriffs are currently hiring.I am 49 years old in very good physical shape.I realize thats a little old but i understand they do not have any age restrictions. How are my chances of getting hired?I have 4 years military also.Anyone who is a sheriff or knows someone who is ,could give me any feedback. Thanks

I asked my dh about this because he knows a lot of officers. He says Hillsborough county has a reserve department that you might want to look into. You won't get paid until you reach the required number of hours, but there are opportunities for paid side jobs within the department, and it can help get your foot in the door and increase your chances of being hired.

Also, St. Pete is hiring city officers, where there is also no age requirement. I don't know if you want to drive that far though.

Good luck!
