My wife and I are visiting Pinellas and Pasco in the near future to get a feel for the area and look at some real estate. I was planning on staying at a national chain motel (to get points and a discount) either Super 8 or a Days Inn.
A kid at work who use to live in Pasco said that most of the motels on US 19 and Gulf to Bay (in Pinellas) rent rooms to Sec 8 and they run amok hassling the tourist. Was he just pulling my leg or is there some validity to his statements?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I've never heard of that. Do you know if he meant chain motels (Super 8, Hampton Inn, etc.) or independent ones (Venice, Palm-Aire, etc?) I wouldn't be surprised if some of the independent ones did that, as many of them have become long-term rentals.

In short, I really wouldn't worry about it as long as you're staying in a legitimate hotel/motel.

I think tourist pay more than section 8 and your leg must be getting pretty loose by now.

I did hear about a motel on US19 that was home to a number of people on offenders register

You should check with the hotel before booking, though they may not tell you. I would steer away from the lower end hotels, and maybe some independents - they don't have to follow any corporate policy.
