When you were in college studying to become a teacher, did your professors (those having to do with your major) ever work as a public school teacher?

Prior k-12 teaching experience is a requirement for most education faculty positions.

The teachers who taught classes in my major had not been K-12 teachers. The teachers for my Ed classes had been.

I just assumed the OP meant education coursework and voted that way in the poll. My content (biology) faculty were never k-12 teachers.

I had a couple that hadn't taught at all and more that taught only 1 or 2 years and you could easily tell it. They were the ones that bought into the theory hook, line, and sinker, without a good grasp on what it is really like to teach. Or came up with bizarro ideas. Or you knew had zippo classroom management. Heck, one couldn't even manage a room of education majors. The absolute worst are educational psychology folks. I do think most education college now try to only have faculty that have only taught themselves.

I know of one education program where the faculty have never been teachers, and in shows it the complete lack of preparation of the students. But in good education schools, the professors not only have been teachers but often still are, at least occasionally or in some capacity.

Some did, some didn't. Most of the ones who did teach in classrooms taught 30-40 years prior (and I graduated college almost 20 years ago so we're talking WAAAAAAY back) and for only a few years before they headed for the hills.

^^^^^^None of them were in a classroom for over 20 years & some up to 35. Every approach to discipline
was aimed towards K-4.
