Obviously. My hometown is about 7,000 people, and anybody who works in the school system (as both my parents did/do) is in a complete fishbowl. In a town that size, when you work in a very public arena, you essentially forfeit a good deal of your personal privacy by default. I experienced the same thing when I worked as a newspaper editor there. I was single and pretty actively dating in those years, and because I was all over town all the time for work, and tons of people knew me, when I'd show up at a local establishment or event with a guy, a dozen heads of Chamber of Commerce members, etc. would always be a-swiveling and abuzz. There's just a much more highly developed sense of nosiness in a small, closely-knit community. Everyone knows you, and there's innate human curiosity about people they know. Nobody cares about your business in a community large enough that there's more anonymity.

Kind of how it is where I live in terms of the public workers.

A couple of things I've noticed:

A lot of teachers, at least the females, dating online. Reasons of course are already tackled on in this thread. I've noticed the tend to be a little less picky in terms of the physical requirements (at least they list height ranges that allow for shorter-than-them guys, usually a lack of body type) and tend to be looking for someone a little more compassionate than normal (and a real relationship).
