I know that they instituted the controls in NC. Not sure about TN.

PS-Getting proofed for anything at my age is a real compliment. Or is it,...what if they start proofing me to see if I am eligible for senior citizens discount, even if I don't ask???
OH well, I am 46 and I still get asked if my wife is my daughter.

My friend is a Sheriff in McDowell Co. NC. They boarder Burke Co. They problem they had for a long time, that the Meth-heads were sitting up shop close to the county boarder. If they shut them down in McDowell, they would just pop over to Burke. He said that it wasn't till the two counties started sharing information and allowing officers to cross the boarder to make arrest, that they began to get a handle on it.

The Meth Free Tennessee Act of 2005 requires products that are used to make meth to be kept behind the counter. The exact quote from the act is:

"Non-exempt products containing an immediate methamphetamine precursor shall be maintained behind the counter of the pharmacy"

Sorry about the typo in the website name. I see everyone has already figured that out!

So I think--hmmm--upper Bledsoe County area sounds good...actually- I left feedback for the State of TN on that site b/c you know at least the great State of TN is admitting a problem and working towards a solution...and it looks as though they are going right for the throat -- where as some States have the same or similar problems but do not want to admit it or hope it's a passing fad...I (as a NY'er) have to give TN credit for addressing this problem and putting out there for others to critisize--being such a rural state- what everyone "loves" about TN- and Meth seemingly being the rural drug--I think ya'll are doing a great job...
Agree 100%. Good job

They usually look at me, and I say don't make me take my I/D out....lol and they don't.

yes, now a days I get excited when they proof me! How pathetic is that? I come home and brag to my husband "I was proofed!" As long as I don't smile so they can't count the "smile" lines around my eyes--19 years of marriage and three kids " smile lines...yeah right"

From what I can best tell, that site has stats from 2005 listed. Since Rutherford has 0, either the bust I remember was 2004 or they were not convicted.
Knox only shows 10. In just this year there were two on the news that I was paying attention to because one was a guy I went to high school with and the other was a very distant relative. I did not see if that was per bust or per person because that would be 4 people involved in those two cases.

WHICH MAKES ME WONDER IF THE STATS ARE RIGHT?

Thumbs up drug stats

As a former cop I don't place a lot of weigh on stats that are posted as far as crime etc.

One thing you have to remember is that a media report of a drug bust is just that...the report of the initial arrest, etc. Obviously at this point there would be no convictions. Odds are if you are actually seeing data concerning a conviction the actual crime probably occured back in the past.

Most drug cases involving meth are now handled by the feds in my area. I think one thing that is very hard to track is the "time to trial" and so forth.

It is not uncommon for people to wait for years for a trial...that's just the way the system works.

I guess the point I'm making is that it could actually takes years to collect the proper data to reflect actual crime stats.

Unless I could actually see how they categorize and collect the data I wouldn't have a lot of faith in the data. There are just far too many variables to consider. Kerry
