Default Behind the times there

Hello,
I will not discourage you to move to TN as I did and LOVE it here! However I will be honest, Athens is about 20 years behind the times. There job market is very slow and they can spot a "flat lander" at 50 paces hahahahaha. Being close to the mountains is nice, I agree however, unless you are more than ready to live the mountain way of life, you might want to look at other towns and areas as options........just my humble opinion. If you would like info and links about other areas in East TN, email me, I will be happy to send them to you. Good luck to you

MBmouse, where in the world did you get your information from? Athens, Tennesse is certainly not behind the times. Athens, Tennessee is a growing booming town. This area has many industries and offers a diverse group of people. I think you need to be more careful in the future about what you post about people from a particular area. Your post was somewhat offensive and not based on factual information!

Kendai, if you are looking for a small town to live in, Athens would be a great place. Athens, is located between Knoxville and Chattanooga. Athens is very close to all the major tourist attractions. We have several strong industries here, and are recruiting more, so your employment opportunities would be excellent.

If you would like more information about this area, please feel free to contact me. You can email me at VanillaSymphonys@aol.com.

I will be glad to recommend other areas. I have lived in Southeast, Tennesse most of my life. I can give you information based on fact.

I am sorry if you were offended, that was not at all my intent. My information is my OPINION that is based on me being in that area and how I was treated while there and what I saw. Between 1999 and 2001 I was part owner of a company that did quite a bit of business in that area, well, at least tried. When dealing with the administration of companies in that area, 5 of them did not have the computers or software to handle simple invoicing and billing. There systems were still running off windows 3.1. I'm sorry, but in my OPINION, that is way behind the times. There were also A LOT of vagrant type people on the street corners, we were asked for pocket change on a daily basis. The employers complained that there was such a high unemployment rate yet no matter how many adds they put in the papers, they wouldn't even get any applicants. We were also on the brunt end of jokes on a regular basis because we had a "funny last name, you ain't from around here are you" and comments about "flatlanders". Now mind you, we are average, middle class white Americans, Christians who treat everyone in the same way we would like to be treated.
So again, I am very sorry if you were offended. But it is my understanding that that is what this forum is all about, the asking of questions and the average Joe's giving there opinions and experiences about the area being asked about. I never claimed to be an expert. Again, very sorry if you felt offended, I will be sure to be very careful about how I word any responses from now on.

I assume that you job transfer will put you in the Athens area, or why else would you want to move there. I lived in TN and NC and had family who lived in Athens and can think of dozens of areas close to the mountains that are superior to Athens.

My husband and I moving to Athen's TN... Getting out of FL...House up for sale and I sure hope it sales fast. Tax and Insurance eating away at our savings. I too will need a job. I have posted my resume on several website such as jobsearch.com, federalgov.com and many more. Hoping to land a job before the move. I am a little concern about the job market. We have family moving to Athens as well. There must be something good about the area. I do not know, but that is where we are moving to. I have checked into a lot of the different area's in the state of TN, but we do not want to go to the BIG places to live. We want too live in a small town and to be close to the mt's., and Athen's has just what we need. Hoping for the best.
