I had a strong Bahstahn accent. But I moved to Orlando first. They got to have all of the fun making jokes. I remember the entire crew at a Wendy's having a grand old time. Fortunately, they were also very sweet.

However, I eventually had to do something about it. It got to the point where people either didn't understand me or they spent the entire time making fun of the accent and not absorbing a darn thing that I said. So I slowly started pronouncing my "r"s and made other changes. People occasionally mention my accent now, but it is pretty rare. They often think I am from Michigan.

No matter what, though, I still say "he-ya" instead of "here."

But I changed my accent in Florida. I would be surprised if the local Knoxvillians would be as rude about an accent but I don't really know.

I'm moving my family down to TN in the next few months. We've been visiting there for the past 7 years and everyone we've met has been friendly. Transplants ,locals they've all been great. As far as my accent, most people ask to hear it. I don't mind I'm just looking to fit in. I personally want to move to TN to be in TN, not to make it like NY. The open spaces, beautiful scenery and friendly people.
